June 12, 2019|Earned Media, Owned Media, Paid Media, Shared Media | 1 Min Read

As a franchise marketing agency, working with more than 20,000 franchisees in the U.S. and worldwide, we often find ourselves in the position of being phone psychologists. In many instances, we hear franchisees speak in glowing terms about the franchisor, but more often than not we hear about their growing frustrations as a franchisee. Fortunately, you can turn things around. But to do that, you need to know why your franchisees hate you. My article outlines six situational examples and how to overcome them. DOWNLOAD THE ARTICLE

Why Your Franchisor Hates You

June 12, 2019|Earned Media, Owned Media, Paid Media, Shared Media | 1 Min Read

I recently wrote an article for Forbes, giving insight into some of the frustrations that many franchisees have with their franchisors. Well, there’s a flip side to that coin. Your franchisor knows that without you – and the other franchisees – the business would at best consist of a few company owned locations, that you’re the backbone of the business and whatever else you’d like to hear that would massage your ego.  But the truth is, while you may hate your franchisor, your franchisor hates you, too. Fortunately, you can turn things around. Read my follow up article to learn […]

Why Franchisors Whiff on Using SEO to Drive Leads

June 12, 2019|Owned Media, Paid Media, Shared Media | 6 Min Read

Why most franchise brands whiff at using organic search to drive online leads. The good news – there are only two major ways to impact your brand’s online search results: organic search and paid search. The bad news – driving real results can be tricky.  Just ask the long line of franchise marketing vendors and in-house digital marketing gurus that have been vaporized by impatient franchise execs over the years. The two primary methods for driving online leads are known as search engine marketing (SEM) and search engine optimization (SEO) and respectively. PAID SEARCH: SEMFranchise marketers have plowed tons of […]

Tips Tips for Writing Killer EMail Subject Lines.

May 12, 2019|Owned Media, Paid Media, Shared Media, Uncategorized | 3 Min Read

Before I got into PR (some would say crossed over to the dark side) I was a television reporter.  I find my news background to be very helpful because I understand how to find the unusual angle in a story that might pique the interest of a reporter/producer/blogger.   However, the most difficult part of a pitch for me is writing the subject line for the email. Ironically I had the same difficulty in journalism school writing headlines and in the TV news business helping producers write teasers for stories.  Then, as now, the challenge continues to be that if the […]

What’s Your Franchise Marketing Roadmap?

April 17, 2019|Earned Media, Owned Media, Paid Media, Shared Media, Uncategorized | 3 Min Read

To paraphrase a line out of  The Matrix – “The answer is out there – it’s asking the right questions that drives you to the right one.” A few years back my firm helped a sleepy eLearning software company paint an overarching picture of how to represent their products globally with a consistent, compelling cross channel brand. The company was launched over two decades ago around a revolutionary computer based language-learning product.  Now they’re a multi-million dollar business with a successful IPO and a roster of products sold around the world. Amazing as it may sound, before engaging us they never had […]

Nationwide Consumer Media Coverage Drives Kolache Factory Brand Expansion.

October 3, 2018|Earned Media, Owned Media, Paid Media | 2 Min Read

Three things on every restaurant chain’s To-Do list: create big media buzz, build greater brand awareness and have increased customer engagement and sales. With 919 Marketing leading the way with the Create a New Kolache PR campaign, the Houston-based bakery chain The Kolache Factory was able to do all three. The Create a New Kolache contest asked customers to submit ingredients for a new kolache flavor (A kolache is a Czech pastry filled with meats, cheeses and fruit). The winning flavor was dubbed “Yes, Please” Mac-and-Cheese, a combo of mac-and-cheese, brisket and jalapeño peppers (YUM). Dawn Nielsen, Kolache Factory COO says, “We are thrilled with the results […]

Stop Renting and Start Creating Your Own Franchise Sales Lead Pipeline

August 14, 2018|Owned Media, Paid Media | 2 Min Read

Over the past decade as the Founder and CEO of 919 Marketing Company I’ve had the opportunity to work with an eclectic roster of franchise brands – from high-tech to health care, hair care to elderly care. Here’s my take on franchise sales: Franchise brands are dangerously dependent on “rented” lead channels for finding franchisee prospects versus creating their own sales channels. Here’s an Example: Your brand doesn’t own the content on your Facebook page, and Facebook could decide to remove business pages at any time. They are also considering charging a premium price for leads that convert. Here’s another: It’s entirely plausible […]

You’re A Rock Star And We Know It

March 5, 2018|Earned Media, Owned Media, Paid Media, Shared Media | 5 Min Read

The More Things Change, The More They Stay The SameI spent over a decade working with entertainers and musicians. From recording studios to concert venues, with a few cruise ships in between, I’ve seen my fair share of rock stars, both literally and figuratively. Of all my experiences, I’d say the vast majority haven’t been with actual rock stars, just people who thought they were rock stars. Regardless, whether it was a show for Vince Neil(quintessential rock star) or in-studio with a wannabe musician, everyone got the rock star treatment. Fast forward to my time at 919 Marketing Company and I find my […]

February 19, 2018|Earned Media, Owned Media, Paid Media, Shared Media | 1 Min Read

We not only survived #IFA2018, we thrived!  Our staff participated in 6 roundtables, and I was a panelist on the session “The Marketing KPI’s That Matter.” Best of all, we had a great time spending time with our clients at our booth and over dinner every night of the conference. If you didn’t have a chance to connect with us while you were there, or if you weren’t able to attend, check out the 1 minute video below to see some funny highlights. We asked attendees, “What would you do if you could literally wave a magic wand?” What would you do? We’re […]
